If Once You Have Slept on an Island Summary

If Once You Have Slept on an Island  In this poem, Rachel Field describes her experience on an island. The poet says that if anyone spends a day on an island, he/she will never remain the same, even though the things and names remain the same. The person may be busy the in the street doing shopping; relaxing at home spending time in sewing.  The poet further says that the inhabitant will see the vast stretch of blue sea-water, and the hovering of sea gulls wherever he/she moves on the island. After returning from there, the person may discuss with his/her neighbours about his/her experience of staying on an island keeping himself close to the fire; but when he/she sleeps at night, he/she will certainly hear the whistling ships and the bells of the lighthouse, and the beat of tidal waves. At last, the poet concludes that a stay on an island changes a person to some extent but he/she is not able to understand how and why such changers have come upon him/her. So the poet says tha...

FROM A RAILWAY CARRIAGE SUMMARY

FROM A RAILWAY CARRIAGE  In this poem, the poet describes his first journey by train. Its speed is very amazing. He presents natural scenes that he sees from the window of a railway carriage.  The poet says that the train runs faster than fairies and witches. It rushes forward leaving behind bridges, houses, fences and ditches. The speedy movement the train reminds him of the way the troops of soldiers attack the enemy in a battle. It passes through green fields where the cattle and horses are grazing. All the scenes of the hill and the plain, which passes so quickly that it seems to him as one drop of rain follows another during heavy rainfall. Again and again, the train passes by several painted stations with whistle in a very short time. The poet sees  a child climbing a high hill. During his climb, he collects blackberries. He also sees a tramp or homeless person who looks at the train with amazement. He also sees some l...

Major Achievements Essay

Major Achievement in the Last Five Years Major achievements are the gains that one achieves during the a certain course of time. The major achievement of mine in the last five years is the persistent progress in the arena of education, which has given me and my family a lot of happiness. Five years ago, I was in Grade 2. At such an age I scored very good marks. Both my teachers and parents blessed me. Performing well in all examinations. I reached to Grade 3, and then to Grade 4. After reaching Grade 5, I realised the vastness of the course. I had to work hard to maintain my previous position. When I reached to Grade 6, I also felt the same, but I never gave up and continued to work hard to satisfy my parents and teachers.  The main idea that we can conclude is that the persistent hard work is required to achieve the noblest ends of life or to reach the meridian of one's life.
