Fire and Ice Summary

Fire and Ice The poem Fire and Ice presents two different ways by which the world will end. some are of opinion that the world will end in fire whereas others believe that ice equally be the reason for the destruction of the world. The speaker is completed aware of the burning desire, greed and lust that the people possess; so he favours those who believe that the world will end in fire.  But if the world had to be destroyed twice; ice, like fire, would do the similar job in destroying the whole world. According to the poet, ice stands for hatred, which is growing among human beings so rapidly people don’t care about other’s feelings; they have become quite indifferent to others, and hence this will also be a sufficient factor to destroy the world. The conclusion is that the human emotions such as strong desire and hatred have increased so much that they might play a pivotal role in ending the entire world.
