1. What are the things the wind does in the first stanza?
Ans- The things that the wind does in the first stanza are follows:
i. The wind breaks the shutters of the windows.
ii. It scatters the papers and throws down the books that were on the shelf.
iii. It also tears the pages of the book and brings rain.
2. Have you seen anybody winnow grain at home or in a paddy field? What is the word in your language for winnowing? What do people use for winnowing (Give the word in your language, if you know them).
Ans- yes I have seen some women winnowing in a paddy field. The word that is used for winnowing in our language is osana. People use winnowing basket for winnowing.
3. What does the poet say the wind God winnows?
Ans- The wind god winnows or Knocks down the weak houses, doors, beams, wood, bodies, lives and hearts, and then crushes them all. It is the law of nature to separate the weak people from the strong as the chaff is separated from the grain.
4. What should we do to make friends with the wind?
Ans- To make friends with the wind, we should build strong homes and the doors must be fixed firmly. In addition to this, we should continuously practice to make our body physically and mentally fit.
5. What to do the last four lines of the poem mean to you?
Ans- The last four lines of the poem implies that the weak people are broken down by the negative forces; whereas the strong ones get strengthened by the same negative forces.
The same thing happens in nature also. When the strong wind blows, it extinguishes weak fires but it makes strong fires flourish.
6. How does the poet speak to the wind - in anger or with humour? You must also have seen or heard of the wind crumbling lives. What is your response to this? Is it like the poet’s?
Ans- The poet speaks to the wind with humour. Yes, I have also seen or heard of the wind crumbling lives. Our response is similar to the poet that we should build strong homes and try to strengthen ourselves both physically and mentally because the strong wind damages only weak things.
