1. Why was Kezi afraid of her father?

Ans- Kezia was afraid of her father because her father was very strict; never talk to her in an affectionate manner; and the way he looked at her was also frightening.

2. who were the people in Kezia’s family?

Ans- The people in Kezia’s family were her mother, father, grandmother and herself.

3.what was Kezia’s father's routine?i. before going to his office?ii. after coming back from his                  office?

iii. On Sundays?

Ans- Before going to his office, it was Kezia’s fathers routine to give her a casual kiss to which responded with goodbye, father.

Ans- After coming back from his office it was his daily routine to ask to bring his tea into the drawing room. He would also ask for newspaper and slippers. Besides this, she is ask to take off his boots.

Ans- On Sundays, her father would sleep soundly on the sofa with his handkerchief on his face. He would also snore while sleeping.

4. what ways did  Kezia’s grandmother encourage her to get to know her father better? 

Ans- To get to know her father better Kezia’s grandmother, on Sunday afternoons, encouraged her to go to the drawing room so that she could have a nice talk with her parents. She asked also her to make a pin- cushion as a birthday gift for her father.

1. Kezia’s efforts to please her father resulted in displeasing him very much. How did this happen?

Ans- Kezia was suggested by her grandmother that she should make a pin- cushion as a birthday gift for her father so that she could please him.

In this process, she stitched the three sides of the case using a double cotton. She, then, went to her mother's bedroom to look for scraps. There she found some sheets of paper on the bed-table, which she tore them into tiny pieces, stuffed the case, and then sewed up the fourth side. 

Bu her efforts to please her father resulted in displeasing him very much as those papers, which she used for pin cushion, contained fathers great speech for Port Authority.


2. Kezia decides that there are different kinds of father what kind of father was Mr Macdonald and how was he different from Kezia’s father ?

Ans- Mr McDonald, who lived next door, was affectionate towards his children. He was very friendly to his children.

Mr McDonald was just opposite of Kezia’s father who was very strict. Though he had five children, he never felt irritated by his children. He used to play tag together in the evening. While playing he kept baby, Mao, on his shoulder; the two little girls hanging on to his coat pockets ran round and round the flower–beds. He also did not feel sad when the boys turned hose on him.

Watch watching all these activities, Kezia decided that there were different sorts of father.

3. How does Kezia begin to see her father as a human being who needs her sympathy?

Ans- Kezia begins to see her father as a human being who needs sympathy after an incident that happened during that night.

 It so happened that Kezia was alone at night as her mother and grandmother went to hospital. Since she often had nightmares, she asked Alice what she would do if she had nightmares. 

At night, the same nightmare came - the butcher with a knife and a rope moving towards her father. She then started shouting, grandma, grandma.

Hearing the loud noise, her father came there and lifted the child up, and then took her into a big bedroom. He removed the newspaper from the bed and tucked up the child. He also lay down beside her. For fear, she kept her head on the chest of her father and held the shirt tightly.

That night she realised that he was harder than her grandmother but it was a nice hardness; and that though he worked very hard, he could not behave like Macdonald.

After this, the feelings for her father get changed.
